According to the Disaster Management Center on Saturday, Cyclone Ditwah’s torrential rains and floods have killed 123 people in Sri Lanka thus far, while another 130 are still unaccounted for. Relief efforts are continuing, according to Director General Sampath Kotuwegoda, with 43,995 people relocated to state-run welfare centers after the week’s intense rains devastated their homes. The DMC stated that although the weather system was moving away from the island and into neighboring India, it had already caused enormous damage. Kotuwegoda informed reporters in Colombo that “relief operations with the help of the armed forces are underway.”
